Foreword
The Broadcast market is facing a new age.
Like has already happened in other industries Information Technology is entering more and more in the traditional broadcast facilities.
Use of legacy equipment is generating ‘competitive disadvantage’ and threats old style TV surviving in the New Media industry.

The buzzword is Content Repurposing and Media Asset Management is the new paradigm in the television industry. The quick adoption of the ‘internet distribution’ to the television industry is rapidly changing the way television is delivered.

Most of the latest RFP issued by TV Stations are asking for it … but often their desires and needs are not clearly expressed.
The sense that transpires from the market is that everybody is looking for solutions that go beyond the traditional broadcast approach in order to find new cost saving solution, to create new revenue streams through more effective and efficient workflows, through content repurposing and efficient acquisition, management and delivery.

The flipside for TV operators is that solutions are becoming more complex, too many technologies to integrate and few people able to do it. Big players with solid Information Technology skills are trying to enter in this market that shows very interesting growth trends.

Traditional broadcaster players are trying to cope with this new challenge with new products and package solutions.

We at Media Power believe the content is the only real value of the entertainment industry, the challenge of today’s Television Industry is the ability of turning the TV industry in to a predictable business applying the right mix of video technology, IT skills and processes definition and implementation. And this is the value we bring to the party that’s why we have tamed it as ‘Broadcast Media Value’. Broadcast Media Value is a solution to streamline Television: Encoding, Editing, Automation, Media Asset Management , Play to Air and Media Archiving.

Introduction
The Broadcast market is addressed by several vendors with different scopes. Some of them have a legacy tradition in the Broadcast market by supplying traditional broadcast equipment such as VCR or Cameras, the large IT Companies are trying to get their slice of the Broadcast cake – whilst other smaller SW vendors have vertical solution for specific areas.

All these players are offering hardware & software solutions that are difficult to differentiate unless you are really an expert , that are difficult to integrate and which value is difficult to evaluate. Nevertheless their adoption is unavoidable. After many years of stagnation Broadcasters are now ‘forced’ to invest in this new, often unknown field.
Budget unallocated in the past is being unlocked and potential business is spreading all over the world. In order to leverage those opportunities traditional vendors are trying to smuggle their product line up as an end-to-end solution pretending to alleviate the end user from the pain to be the first to experiment (and pay for) the integration of different applications and platforms.

The reality is that very often a single vendor cannot provide the ‘Best of the Breed’ in all fields and often the ‘black boxes’of single manufacturer do not talk to each other… In this context, use of a system integration is becoming a competitive advantage and a natural way to grow up in the value chain. Traditional vendors have bad time in undergoing this way due to their historical background.

Traditional Broadcast Equipment Manufacturers have little to no expertise in integrating third parties technologies and products, nor the will to do it. Often they have little software and networking competence and a structure too costly to address the system integration market in an appealing way. All they are doing is essentially leveraging their brand name and their financial power. Traditional IT Companies, even if more oriented in the integration realm, are finding difficulties to address the peculiarity of the Broadcast Market. In fact none of them can claim really few success stories, if any.

In this scenario MediaPower™ offers the credibility to be a leading consultant in the Broadcast industry with outstanding achievement in the information technology domain due to the experience acquired in deploying video server based Broadcast facilities WW and to integrate them with Automation, MAM and our own live editing applications.
MediaPower™ can leverage its openness toward third party solutions (in terms of traditional broadcast equipment and software solutions) and capabilities to integrate in partially deployed IT broadcasting facilities.

Broadcast
MediaValue is MediaPower brand name for a core business solution aimed to the specification , certification and supply of end to end Media Solution ranging from Automation MAM, video servers and disk or tape based media libraries.

Since MediaPower are not manufacturing any of the above components our values are the knowledge of the Broadcast workflow, the HW/SW qualification process, the integration capability. So why to delegate to a vendor the selection of your Broadcast System?

In fact qualifying for instance a video server years ago was a pretty easy task that did not require a specialized skill : few parameters as capacity, redundancy, I/O density were enough to size it wise.
The avalaibility of a de facto standard control protocols (VDCP, Louth) and standard broadcast connections (SDI, AES) make it integrated by definition in any existing broadcast facility. With the advent of the DBS or DTT Multichannel Television, NVOD, VOD and IP television and the necessity of being able to manage , repurpose and track a very large number of media assets with thousands of users then the problem arise. Fueled from this need almost all HW & SW vendors did develop a number powerful vertical solutions to address.

These innovative technologies, in order to be fully exploited, need a knowledge of the new television paradigms, IT integration skill often unavailable in house. This difficulty is then exacerbated by the fact that the media preparation and delivery process moved from serial to parallel processes.

Nowadays different applications can simultaneously access the content in different points of the production process therefore the need of process control is greater than in the past. MediaPower™ can play different roles in this field, from flow analysis to writing RFP up to the supply of a fully integrated system.
