Al Dafrah TV expands channel lineup with MediaPower broadcast appliances
Genoa, Italy (March 3, 2015) – In line with its mission to bring individuals of the UAE community closer to their heritage and to each other, Dubai’s premiere TV operator Al Dafrah TV expands its channel offerings. To accommodate this expansion and ensure excellence in program delivery, Al Dafrah will run the new channels via multi-channel broadcasting appliance MediaPower AirGo and media asset management application MediaPower Arkki Pro. Media technology solutions provider MediaPower is present in the UAE through Baba Broadcast.
Al Dafrah stores and manages content in a central storage, also by MediaPower, with a usable capacity of 150TB and the ability to edit-while-ingest. Up to 8 Al Dafrah Adobe NLE editors can search, retrieve, and share videos, images, and documents from this storage via the MediaPower Arkki Pro.
The MediaPower Arkki Pro is a MAM application that allows TV operators to store, catalog, and manage content via standard web browsers. It includes a powerful transcoding engine that allows uploaded videos to be transcoded or converted to other formats. It also features advanced rough-cut video editing capabilities and automatic content upload through NAS-connected watch folders.
Adobe-edited or final content are stored back into the MediaPower storage and transported by Etere Data Mover for playout by MediaPower AirGo.
The MediaPower AirGo is a 2RU system-in-a-box for multi-channel broadcasting. It supports SD/HD SDI ingest multi-format, low-res proxy generation, file-based ingest with transcoding and quality check, and scalable built-in storage of up to 30TB. The appliance comes with built-in automation, master control, and support for multi-layer graphics overlay.
Al Dafrah’s 12TB AirGo server is configured with 2 input and 4 output channels: 1 input channel for live, 1 input channel for tape recording, 2 output channels for live and for playlist-based playout. AirGo’s built-in master control allows switching between program and live source and embedding graphics in the live feed. An XOR Media MSV 1200 acts as a backup server for AirGo.
Marcello Dellepiane, President and CEO of MediaPower, says, “This streamlined architecture makes it possible for Al Dafrah to efficiently manage current and future channel lineups. The system-in-a-box configuration of MediaPower appliances provides operators big and small the flexibility of starting small and scaling as needed, allowing for a strategy that is both cost-efficient and operationally effective.“
