MediaPower deploys AirGo servers at Kanal 2
Kanal 2 future-proofs playout infrastructure with MediaPower AirGo
Genoa, Italy (July 20, 2016) – Media technology solutions provider MediaPower announced the deployment of its AirGo integrated playout system at Kanal 2, Estonia’s first privately held television channel. Three (3) AirGo servers have been installed as part of Kanal 2’s playout infrastructure upgrade, delivering a more efficient and future-ready playout workflow.
AirGo is a highly integrated playout solution for multi-channel broadcasting that combines automation, playout, and interactive graphics overlay within one system. On a mere 2RU machine, it supports multi-format SD/HD, simultaneous SDI and IP ingest/playout, low-res proxy generation, file-based ingest with transcoding and quality check, and comes with scalable built-in RAID-protected storage of up to 40 TB.
Three (3) AirGo servers, each with 2 inputs and 2 outputs and 12TB of built-in storage, have been installed as part of a new scalable playout infrastructure serving Kanal 2’s three channels (Kanal 2, Kanal 11, and Kanal 12). A 240TB Huawei OceanStor 5300 central storage system has been deployed alongside the AirGo servers, which are also capable of ingest and playout direct from the central storage system. In addition to a flexible architecture, AirGo servers have provided Kanal 2 the capability to natively play LXF files, up and down conversion on the fly, and overlay subtitles without the need for third party devices or applications. The upgrade project is managed with MediaPower local partner ProMedia.
“We needed a flexible but cost-effective playout system to help us modernize and improve our playout workflow and MediaPower has provided us with something more,” says Aimar Prous, Technical Director at Kanal 2. “Not only did they give us a feature-packed solution that allows us to deliver more and better programs to our viewers, they also made sure that our playout infrastructure is future-ready, not just in terms of channel and storage scalability, but also with native support for IP playout.”
MediaPower AirGo will be featured at IBC 2016 in RAI Amsterdam at the MediaPower stand 7.J42 from September 9 to 13, 2016.About MediaPower

Kanal 2 is the first privately owned television channel in Estonia. It was founded in 1993 by film producer Ilmar Taska. The channel focused on programs produced in Estonia and has been recognized for its selection of feature films from around the world. In 1995, the Scandinavian media giant, Schibsted ASA became a shareholder of the company. By 2001, it has acquired 100% of AS Kanal 2. In September 2013, Schibsted Media Group has sold all of its Baltic operations in Eesti Meedia (including Kanal 2) to a group formed by management of Eesti Meedia and local investor Margus Linnamäe. Over time, the competitive landscape in Estonia’s television market, legislation and TV audience preferences have changed. Kanal 2 has successfully kept pace with these changes and has expanded its channel lineup in 2008 with Kanal 11, which broadcasts primarily women-oriented programs, and Kanal 12 primarily for male audiences. Kanal 2 continues to offer viewers the best TV content – from latest films, to news, and entertainment shows. www.kanal2.ee
